Designed and produced locally from solid iroko, the aptly named Benchmark range is hand-crafted using traditional mortice and tenon jointing throughout. Suitable for indoor or permanent outdoor use, the range consists of dining tables, chairs, carvers, poolside loungers, recliners, chaise longues, sofas, daybeds, modular corner units, coffee tables, Morris chairs, Adirondack chairs, planters, garden benches and swing benches.

In terms of quality, Benchmark products are simply without peer in the industry. Each piece is nothing short of a work of art and the furniture must be seen to be fully appreciated.

Also known as African teak, iroko is a dense and durable timber that is ranges in colour from yellow to light brown and darkens to a rich golden-brown as the wood ages. Like teak, the wood has a high natural oil content which makes it suitable for full outdoor use without any form of further treatment. If untreated and exposed to the elements the wood weathers over time to a pleasing silver-grey tone.

Oiling is entirely optional and we use a top-quality Danish oil that produces a soft matt sheen and is available in clear form or with a tint of either white or grey. The tinted oil gives the timber a lime-washed appearance and has the advantage of sealing the wood and protecting table tops, in particular, from food and wine stains while the wood is new and has not yet weathered to a silver-grey tone.

Our garden benches can also be spray-painted if required. In such case the unassembled components are first painted with an undercoat and the assembled bench is then provided with two coats of spray- paint. In short, the work is done properly and the bench will not require another coat of paint for many years.

Chelsea Garden and Home can also make up cushions and seat-pads with soft-fill or solid foam inners. There are literally hundreds of outdoor fabrics to choose from and we have swatches available in Hertex, Tempotest and Sunbrella outdoor fabric ranges.
