The Benchmark range Garden Benches are made from solid Iroko. Also known as African Teak, the wood resembles Teak in appearance, is exceptionally durable and does not require treatment with preservatives or sealants. It is customary to leave outdoor furniture made from Iroko in its natural state and, in this condition, it requires no maintenance and will weather over time to an attractive silver-grey tone.
Oiling the wood is a relatively easy procedure that entails very little by way of further maintenance. Oiling slows the weathering process, reduces the formation of small (and perfectly natural) surface cracks as the wood ages, and in general replenishes the natural oil content of the wood lost to the leaching effects of sun and rain.
We use Danish oil which is easy to apply and produces an attractive matt finish. Oiling options include clear, white, grey and dark tints. The benches can also be spray-painted white or any colour specified.
Benchmark Outdoor Benches are available in a wide range of original and attractive designs. Standard sizes for the Huguenot, Colonial and Victorian are 1.2 meters, 1.5 meters, 1.8 meters, 2.1 meters and 2.4 meters. The Circles bench is available at 1.8 meters and 2.4 meters. The Edwardian or Luyten’s bench is a generally larger bench and standard sizes are 1.8 meters, 2.1 meters, 2.4 meters and 3 meters.
We also supply swing benches on either a trellis or A-frame support structure, and most of the benches in the range can be converted into swing benches or swing daybeds and fitted with a thick, comfortable mattress if required. Excellence in materials, design and craftsmanship are the hallmark of the Benchmark range. Each piece is nothing short of a work of art, will provide years and years of reliable service and the outstanding quality of the product needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
